The 2025 Season

We are excited for this next year and some big changes that will make our plants available to the wider world of plant lovers.

Mail Order - new this year!

Starting this spring we will be making our entire collection available through online mail order. Just browse through our collection, search by plant name, growing conditions or uses and place your order. Shipping costs will be added. We will be shipping dormant, bare root stock starting in mid April and again in mid to late September.

Visiting the nursery

We will be open from 10am-6pm, May 3rd through June 29th. Wander through our show gardens, be inspired and see what our plants look like in the ground and growing. Through the rest of the summer you can catch us by chance or by appointment.

Great Brook Nursery grew out of our love for growing plants and our collection reflects the work of the past eight years. We are primarily propagators and nearly all of our plants are grown from seed or from locally acquired divisions. Our stock is grown outdoors and is exposed to the rigors and vagaries of the seasons. This is important, because when you buy a plant from us, you can be assured that it is well acclimated and ready to grow under natural conditions.

So, once again, dive into the amazing flora of the world with us and dream of gardens full of beautiful and useful plants.

Our nursery is located at 58 Lee Rd in Plainfield, Vermont. USA

We have been gardening together for 30 years. Our idea for a nursery of ornamental, edible and medicinal perennials grew from this love of gardening and a deep curiosity in plants.

In 2020, I connected with Don and Lela Avery. They had run the successful Cady’s Falls Nursery, now known as Cady’s Falls Botanical Gardens, in nearby Morrisville, Vermont for 40 years. I was impressed by the gardens, their understanding of real propagation and the incredible collection of plants beautifully displayed. I also really enjoyed their company. Over the years I have traded labor for seeds, divisions, cuttings and all the information I could sponge up. They introduced us to the big world of garden horticulture and much of our collection is a result of what we gathered there. We are indebted to the time, knowledge and plants they have shared to help build our nursery.

They inspired us to build up our own gardens, to grow the plants we sell, and to showcase them in a beautiful landscape for customers and visitors. It was what made CFN so unique. That work continues because deep down we are gardeners. We are inspired by the successes and failures of growing things and creating a landscape that combines beautiful plants and the work of hands. We invite you to visit our gardens and nursery in Plainfield, Vermont.
