Levisticum Officinale (Umbelliferae)
Lovage is a single species with a deep history in Alpine Europe. It forms a mound of shiny, celery-like leaves and puts up a 6 ft. flower stalk with an umbrel of tiny yellow flowers in June and July. It is a wonderful attracter of beneficial insects. The plant, and mostly seeds, are strongly aromatic and used in salads, stews, pestos and also in cordials and perfumery. Best in rich soil and full sun.
