Liatris Spicata (Compositae)

Gayfeather is an Eastern US native that has become a classic in perennial landscaping. Long racemes up to 3 ft. tall covered with small purple flowers that emerge from a mound of narrow leaves. A great cut flower that also dries very nicely. Likes a moist, but well drained soil and can grow in full sun or partial shade. The roots were used medicinally by North American natives.
