Linum Perenne (Linaceae)

Perennial flax is a hardy tufted pant with narrow spirally arranged leaves. The flowers are true blue and grow atop the mound on tough wiry stems. Each flower blooms for just a day, but it continues for nearly 8 weeks in early summer with sparse flowers through the fall. Though a short lived plant, it reseeds nicely without becoming invasive. Flax has a long history of human use. It is still grown to make linen cloth  and linseed oil.
