Rheum Palmatum (Polygonaceae)

This is an ornamental and medicinal species of rhubarb known as Chinese or turkey rhubarb. It makes a beautiful architectural plant with large green to red leaves strongly cut at the edges. In early summer it puts up a spike of pink to red flowers that can tower over 7’ This plant needs a large growing area. It requires rich fertile soil, full sun, partial shade and a good mulch.The roots have been used in Chinese medicine for it’s astringent qualities, especially for stomach.
