Ornamentals and edibles. A massive genus of over 700 species with world wide distribution. Many are well known including garden onions, and perennial chives, but the genus is full of garden worthy perennials. They are borne from bulbous or rhizomatous roots with strappy or narrow leaves. The flowers are often spherical umbels, generally purple, pink or white. Best in fertile, well-drained soil and full sun. Some species even prefer a sandy soil. We have just scratched the surface of this genus. We offer some nice perennial, edible and ornamental forms and are always looking for more.
