Commonly known as blackberry lily because of the clusters of black seeds that looks like a big berry, it is a genus of only two species. The foliage is sword shaped like an iris and it has a unique star shaped flower in bright yellow-orange and spotted in red freckles. Puts on a beautiful late summer show. Belamcanda, known as She-Gan, is native to China and has been used as a medicine in TCM to treat upper respiratory infections. We have grown this zone 5 lily on off here for several years. Though it hasn’t thrived, we’ve kept a small patch.
