Hibiscus moscheutos (Malvaceae)
Moscheotos is the hardy species of the vast hibiscus genus which mostly comprise tropical species. Though not typically found this far north, H. moscheutos grows wild in parts of southern New England and is sometimes called swamp mallow. A statuesque perennial that comes back to life in late spring, after you think it did not make it over the winter. Large fuzzy leaves with three lobes emerge, on sturdy stems putting on a quick and impressive display. Late in the summer large flowers in shades from red, pink to white, with a crimson center, emerge putting on a tropical show. Likes a rich soil and a sunny spot, especially against a building where it can soak up some heat.

H. moscheutos ‘species’ - This is the wild form that has a taller, more open habit. Large pink, red and white flowers.
H. moscheutos ‘Disco Belle’ - A more compact form. Seed grown cultivar. Classic color mix.
H. moscheutos ‘Luna Mix’ - Another seed grown cultivar, strong colors on a compact plant.
H. moscheutos ‘Angel Eyes’ - A Walter’s cultivar. One of the earliest to flower. White flowers with a raspberry eye that radiates onto the petals. Vigorous!
