Ligularia (Asteraceae)

$15.00

Leopard Plant is a robust, often coarse perennial with nearly 150 species most from central and Eastern Asia. They are usually large growing 3’-5’ tall and 3’wide with large, round or palmate leathery leaves attached to the plant with a long stalk. The foliage ranges from dark green to a rich burgundy and many cultivars are bred for the large, dramatic foliage that looks great all summer long. The flowers are yellow to orange, daisy-like with a few to many corymbs or tall, spiky racemes. Generally flowering later summer, they fill a needed niche in the summer schedule. They require a cool, shady location with evenly moist soil and are totally intolerant of hot sun. Another benefit for places that are often hard to fill. There are many nice species and cultivars and we continue to look to add more.

AVAILABLE THIS YEAR

L. dentata - Unknown origin. Large, round leaves, green on top burgundy on the bottom. Bears a red stalk with corymbs of yellow flowers. Flowers late summer, but looks great all year.

L. przewalskii - Green, palmate, deeply cut and irregular. Flowers mid-summer on a tall raceme of yellow flowers on a dark stem. Striking!
