Astilbes (Saxifragaceae)
A well known plant for northern gardens with beautiful foliage and flowers. With several species breeding has resulted in a dizzying range of heights and colors with a variety for every situation. In the north, they do best in full sun with moisture retentive soil, or light shade. The blossoms rise mid-summer as colorful plumes in white, pink, red, and purple above cut, sometimes glossy foliage. Makes a nice cut and drying flower. Extremely hardy and beautiful. We have nearly 20 different varieties that we collected from the Cady’s Falls Nursery collection. We probably have one that is right for your garden!
