Cassia Marilandica, or Senna Marilandica (Fabaceae)
Also known as wild Senna or Maryland Senna, this North American native, leguminous plant grows 4ft-6ft tall. The yellow pea-like flowers bloom mid-summer and give way to bean pods that persist into the winter and are relished by birds, especially turkeys. It grows well in damp or wet soils and seems to do well in either full sun to partial shade. The first people of Eastern North America used this plant extensively. Makes a nice, if maybe imposing, addition to the landscape.
