Digitalis (Scrophulariaceae)
Known commonly as foxglove, this famous cottage garden plant comes in several species. The more common purpurea are very showy, but are usually true biennials and tend to seed around nicely. We carry a cross of the D. purpurea and the perennial D. Grandiflora called D. x mertonensis The flowers are larger than both species with a base of fuzzy leaves. They are also more long lived, persisting for several years, in which time they will have seeded down several new plants that spread nicely around the garden. Digitalis lutea is a more persistent perennial form with small, straw yellow flowers and glossy leaves. Makes a nice clump over time.
