Liatris Spicata (Compositae)

$15.00

Gayfeather is an Eastern US native that has become a classic in perennial landscaping. Long racemes up to 3 ft. tall covered with small, usually purple flowers that emerge from a mound of narrow leaves. Blooms from the top, down. A great cut flower that also dries very nicely. Likes moist, but well drained soil and can grow in full sun or partial shade. Without good drainage this dryland plant can heave in the winter. The roots were used medicinally by North American natives.

We are growing several other species of liatris, including several native to the eastern US. Watch this space for more introductions.
