Hibiscus moscheutos (Malvaceae) - Swamp mallow

The hardy hibiscus plant can add a bold tropical look to the late season garden. They can grow tall to 4 ft and with its large, bold ovate leaves and saucer sized hibiscus flowers in shades of white, pink and red, it puts on quite a show. Though regarded as moderately hardy, I have had success growing them. They like rich, moist soil and plenty of sun. Might seed around in a good location. This species is native to the Eastern US.
