Arnica Chamissonis (Compositae) - Meadow Arnica

Arnica is the famous remedy for sprains and bruises. Chammisonis, or meadow arnica, is considered equally medicinal to the more common used montana (European) variety. Easily grown in most soils, but thrives in acidic soils. The plant grows multiple flower stalks with yellow, daisy-like flowers blooming through Spring and early Summer. I have difficulty growing the montana species as it seems prone to damping off in our location. We will continue to experiment as I know it can grow here. The name arnica possibly comes from the Greek word for lamb, arni, a reference to its hairy leaves.
