Cassia Marilandica, or Senna Marilandica (Fabaceae) - Wild Senna

Also known as wild Senna or Maryland Senna, this North American native, leguminous plant grows 3’-4’ tall. The yellow pea-like flowers blooming mid-summer, give way to pods that persist into the winter and are relished by birds, especially turkeys. It grows well in damp or wet soils and seems to do well in either full sun to partial shade. The first people of  Eastern North America used this plant extensively.
