Monarda Didyma (Lamiaceae)

Bee balm is one of the most popular perennials. This North American native in the mint family grows 2’-3’ with terminal whorls of bright red flowers up the stalk that continue blooming into the fall. A good plant for pollinators and hummingbirds. Grows well in shade or sun, but can be susceptible to powdery mildew, particularly in cool, damp locations. Used as a medicinal tea by the first people of the Eastarn US.
