Penstemon Digitalis (Scrophulariaceae)

Another native to western North America, penstemon, sometimes called beardtongue, has been the subject to loads of breeding creating plants in a wide range of shapes, sizes and flower colors. Currently we have ‘Rocky Mtn. Blue’ an easy, long lived plant with blue to purple spires of foxglove like flowers in early summer. Drought tolerant, it likes poor, well drained, slightly alkaline soils. We also carry a unique cultivar called ‘Husker’s Red’.  Bred for its waxy, red green foliage that persists through the year, it flowers a bit later then our other with white to pink flowers through late summer. Both plants grow from 24”- 36”
