Scutellaria Lateriflora (Lamiaceae)

This is the native North American variety, which is not as showy as the baikal skullcap and has different properties. Also known as mad-dog skullcap because it was believed to help treat rabies, it grows 2-4 ft. with small flowers along one side of the stem (later-folia). Grows much better in damp, heavier soils, and can even die if it gets too dry. Dappled shade to full sun. Considered one of the best nervine tonics.
