Sanguisorba Officinalis (Rosaceae)

Great burnet is an elegant perennial up to 4 ft. with pinnate leaves and wiry spikes topped with clustered purple flowers that can keep coming all Summer. Burnet leaves are edible and a  nice addition to Spring salads. The roots have been used medicinally as an astringent to staunch bleeding and promote healing. An important herb in Chinese medicine.
